Two-Step Continuous Cooling Heat Treatment Applied in a Low Carbon Bainitic Steel

چکیده
Thermo-mechanical treatments using continuous cooling after forging are an established method for producing bainitic steels, mainly because of the elimination energy intensive additional heat treatment processes. The is usually employed in uncontrolled manner industrial sector, which can be detrimental to resulting microstructural morphology and, consequently, final product properties. In this study, a new controlled two-step route based on principles displacive growth was designed and applied 0.18C (wt-%) steel. Inverse finite element used data obtain evolution temperatures samples during cooling, allowing assess point rates. Investigations via X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy analysis hardness testing revealed variation morphology, namely, transition from granular bainite lath-like with relatively high constituents/phase boundaries than pre-treated microstructure.

متن کاملMorphology Feature of Nanostructure Bainitic Steel after Tempering Treatment
The microstructure characterization of tempered nanocrystalline bainitic steel is investigated in the present study. It is found that two types of plastic relaxation, dislocation debris and nanotwin, occurs in the displacive transformation due to relatively low transformation temperature and high carbon content. Because most carbon atoms trap in the dislocation, high dislocation density can be ...
متن کاملEnhancement of mechanical properties of low carbon steel based on heat treatment and thermo-mechanical processing routes
Thermal treatments and thermo-mechanical processing routes were applied on a conventional structural steel (st37 steel: 0.12C-1.11Mn-0.16Si) for improvement of tensile properties and enhancement of work-hardening behavior. Full annealing resulted in a sheet with coarse ferrite grains and pearlite colonies arranged alternatively in distinct bands, which showed high ductility, low strength, and t...
متن کاملEnhanced Thermal Stability in Nanostructured Bainitic Steel
We report an attempt at increasing the thermal stability of nanocrystalline bainite to tempering heat-treatments, by enhancing the silicon concentration of the alloy. Validation experiments have been conducted using synchrotron X-radiation during tempering heat treatment. It is found that the change in alloying successfully stabilises the austenite at elevated temperatures by retarding cementit...
متن کاملHeat treatment and mechanical properties of low-carbon steel with dual-phase microstructure
Purpose: The aim of the paper is to design heat treatment conditions of dual-phase steel and to determine their influence on the structure and mechanical properties of steel. Design/methodology/approach: The heat treatment of the C-Mn steel in order to obtain a dual-phase ferritic – martensitic structure of desirable phase fractions was realized. To investigate the influence of heat treatment p...
